Critical need to reset Malaysia

Since Merdeka or Independence from the British colonialists on August 31, 1957 up to now, this nation has been struggling to find the right path and direction to take and so far it is not out of the woods yet for a number of reasons.
While, at present, there is no necessity to go into the details of this, what is important is that Malaysia has to evolve to be reset and perhaps even to build on a completely new and revamped foundation.
There are clear indications that the formation of Malaysia has not shown much success and the country is now ambling along without any real sense of purpose and direction owing largely to inept leaders.
In so far as trying to keep as many Malay Muslims in positions of leadership is concerned, there is nothing wrong with it, if these leaders have the wisdom, knowledge and expertise to lead the nation forward.
What would be a better idea to reset Malaysia is to employ and adopt egalitarian values by appointing capable leaders irrespective of race or religion but who are Malaysian citizens by which the rakyat can benefit.
It is time for a complete overhaul of the Malaysian political system if this country is to amount to anything. Otherwise Malaysians will have to settle for mediocrity and in this world of full blown globalisation that would be real bad news for us.
