It’s the Malaysian Government, not Perikatan Nasional, says UMNO

The new government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be branded as ‘Malaysian Government’, according to UMNO’s president on Friday midnight, August 27.

UMNO’s Chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamid in a statement mentioned that the government should use the ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ tagline and ‘Malaysian government’.

He added that the term ‘Perikatan Nasional government’ is no longer relevant since it was from the previous administration.

In the late-night meeting among UMNO Supreme Council members, several guidelines were brought to the tabled and agreed upon by the council. These guidelines were to guarantee that cross-party cooperation was better for fighting the Covid-19 crises.

Zahid said, “The government must satisfy the demands of the people concerning welfare, including improving the various aid packages, loan moratoriums, one-off minimum RM10,000 i-Citra withdrawals, and assistance for small and medium enterprises.”

Demand has also been made for the royal commission to investigate claims from the former Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas.

The matter was related to political intervention in the Attorney General Chambers’s enforcement agencies and the judiciary.

The Bagan Datoh also that the Malay party needs to be a pioneer in institutional reforms of various branches of the government.

He said, “This includes ensuring a more efficient Parliament and a transparent and clean government, implementing anti-party-hopping laws, and preventing political interference in the nation’s enforcement and legal institutions.”
