Malaysia’s winning dance team
Malaysian dancers, dancing to different dances, are beginning to make waves around the world as a contemporary dance team ZeppoYoungsterz emerged as winners of the Body Rock Dance Competition held in the United States.
The competition, which is among the world’s most prestigious dance competitions, saw the Malaysians gyrate and sway to defeat a number of American teams and participants from South Korea, Canada and Germany.
Performing a concept based choreographic piece in the finals won praise for the Malaysians from judges who awarded them the ‘World Champion of Body Rock Competition 2023’ title and an unspecified amount of prize money.
The Malaysian team almost did not get to San Diego, California for the competition as they lacked the funds and also encountered visa issues for the 15 member team but by crowdfunding successfully they managed to overcome the hurdles.
The Youth and Sports Minister played an instrumental role in helping the team get their visas by forwarding a direct message to the US consular section to expedite the process in time for the competition.
This win showcases the great amount of latent talent that is available among Malaysian youth and is a stepping stone for others to come forward onto the world stage to display their skills and the government is doing the right thing by assisting them.
