Sabah students emerge champions in Spain’s International Arts Festival

Four students from the Keningau Vocational College in Sabah had emerged storytelling champions in the Paints of the Spanish Sun art festival.
The Spanish-based festival saw Aldiedianie Alexander, Dedryana Alessha Vitalis, Abbeylala Atirah Leminit and Beatrice Verus teaming up to be placed first in the competition organized by the European Association of Folklore Festivals.
The four members, currently majoring in Early Childhood Education, had submitted their video titled ‘Sabah Folklore’.
Each of them had the role of telling their stories, all with different backgrounds and cultural tales from the East Malaysian state.
Malaysians took pride in the girls’ success as they were able to showcase a part of Malaysian cultural elements globally.
Zach on Instagram commented that he was shocked to see his state on a global stage. He felt proud that as a Sabahan, they could have an influence on the world with their stories.
Yashcharan Mahenthiran also applauded their talent and remarkable storytelling skills.
She said that stories with the art of history and truth make for the best stories.
“Just goes to show goof our folklore is. Hopefully, the government will popularise Malaysian folklore
even more. Congratulations,” she added.
