On June 12 2026, the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta witnessed clashes between student protesters and police and army personnel over the frustration, angst and anger of Indonesians against the government of president Prabowo Subianto.

The Indonesian city of Jakarta is used to random demonstrations, but this particular time, city folks were voicing a protest against price hikes, the increase in fuel prices, and many strongly believed Prabowo was setting up the country to be a failed state.

In another vein, the student protesters asserted that the nation of Indonesia was heading for bankruptcy over the policies of Prabowo that had failed and created a yawning gap between the nation’s rich and poor.

The student protesters cited examples of how corrupt officials in government were living lavish and luxurious lives while the docile Indonesian masses suffered hardship and toiled just to eke a living which was an unacceptable scenario to the protesters.

The student protesters called for an urgent review of all of Prabowo’s policies, a check on corruption, cronyism, collusion and nepotism and the need for urgents reforms in order to save the people and country.

While Prabowo’s stance was bellicose, the ground realities are that Indonesia will soon witness the back of him, as evidenced by the backlash his policies and governance has created on the nation of Indonesia since he came to power.
