Malaysians currently in Jakarta have been advised to avoid areas affected by public demonstrations taking place in several parts of the Indonesian capital today to minimise safety risks and travel disruptions.

In a statement, the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta said it is closely monitoring the situation surrounding demonstrations being held at the Bundaran HI area and the Arjuna Wiwaha Monument, commonly known as Patung Kuda.

The embassy said the gatherings are expected to cause traffic congestion along several major roads in Central Jakarta, including Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat.

It advised Malaysians visiting Jakarta for business, tourism or other purposes to plan their journeys in advance and stay informed through official announcements issued by local authorities and media outlets.

“The Embassy of Malaysia advises Malaysian citizens in Jakarta to monitor the latest developments through official channels and arrange their travel accordingly.

“They are also urged to avoid demonstration sites and refrain from participating in any activities that may contravene local laws and regulations,” the statement said.

The embassy further reminded Malaysians to remain alert and prioritise their personal safety throughout their stay in the city.
