In the course of going about their work, policemen in the country should observe ‘adat’ or customs and ‘sopan’ or politeness and not be high handed and aggressive with common folk unless they have to deal with ruthless criminals.
There are instances where abuse takes place by policemen, not only on locals but migrant workers as well, and these discrepancies of law need to be addressed and investigated thoroughly by the relevant law enforcement agencies.
There is subliminal evidence to suggest that this mode of behaviour is now becoming increasingly common as the ringgit shrinks and jobs become scarce and foreign workers have no choice but to grease the palm of authorities to be in the country.
The government must take a strict view of these double dealings by authority figures and ensure no stone is left unturned in their investigations to get to the bottom of this malaise which is beginning to affect the image of the country.
While the Polis DiRaja Malaysia or PDRM is termed now as Polis Raja DiMalaysia (the police being kings of the country), these allegations hurled at them have tarnished the good name of the police force otherwise known for integrity and trust.
Now is the best and most opportune time to rid the police force of the rabble rouses or black sheep that is giving a bad name to the police force who are basically known for being fair and just and loyal to king and country.
