Before anyone clenches their fists, before anyone gnash their teeth, before tongues go wagging in wanting to claim our rights, our human rights, let sanity prevail and in the prevailing realities of life now, it might be better to not claim any rights.
This might come across as being quite queer, but the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, should not be viewed as a one-size-fits-all claim on human rights by people of the world.
While everyone should be given to understand that they have rights, you cannot have your cake and get to eat it as well, which means to claim your rights, is also to be saddled with a heavy responsibility.
Freedom, human rights, empowering women, etc, etc might all seem like the right step and direction to take, but it comes at a cost and therefore it is sometimes better not to stake a claim and accept the oppression which may be far better.
Otherwise, in getting our way, in rocking the boat, the end result in pursuing any kind of rights might not be the desired achievement by us and there is that point taken off instead of just settling for suffering in silence.
While knowing your rights might be good, taking the path to claiming your rights might be an arduous task and a process steeped in acute suffering and agony which means it might be better to “drop the claim to your right and enjoy true liberty.”
