For many of us Malaysians, every waking hour seems to be associated with our mobile phones until some people call it ‘handphone’ as it appears to be part of our hand which really is the sign of the times.
Mobile frenzy or mobile mania is prevalent throughout the world. But let’s focus on this country and just get on the Monorail, KTM Komuter, LRT or MRT and the sight that greets you is that almost everyone is on their mobile phones.
But the mania of using the phone has resulted in a number of obvious issues such as eye diseases, sleep deprivation and the lack of healthy face-to-face communication with family which spells the death of quality time.
Addictions are many and varied nowadays but mobile phone addiction is a new phenomenon and a serious addiction if it is not nipped in the bud and can cause a lot of tension and stress among different people.
This is why it is important to exercise restraint and self-control and not allow it to become our partner in life that we lose control of our lives and hand over our lives to our phones which seems to be what is happening now in this country.
Use a mobile phone only when necessary or for some entertainment and leisure, other than that switch it off, and don’t veer off into a different world but stay grounded and connected with those around you.
