In the year 1992, American author and counselor, John Gray, wrote the best selling book, “Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus,” which within a matter of weeks hit the top of the best seller list of The New York Times.

Gray was not exploring sexist themes to merely generate publicity and sell his book to derive an income but he delved into a serious study of the age-old issue of the sexes originating from the tale of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

While Gray’s effort is highly commendable, it is what has evolved, what was taught by the erstwhile professor that is of value and interest regarding the stark differences between the sexes which he compared to being from different planets.

Like Chacko having “men’s needs” in Arundhati Roy’s epic “God of small things,” there is a similar analogy by Gray that men and women differ in their needs and it is important that these needs be fulfilled and met.

Gray also argues that this is the reason why it is the opposite sexes that attract each other and why same sex attraction is a taboo subject which causes a certain enlightenment to dawn on both sexes and also the conundrum of the LGBTQ++ community.

But as similar poles repel, unlike poles attract, and this is the reason why there is a certain attractiveness and animal magnetism in the appeal of sex exuding from both men and women which holds widespread, popular appeal.
