Teacher’s Day falls on May 16 every year, in a celebration commemorating the noble profession, and to dedicate the day for all those who were taught by teachers to show gratitude and thanksgiving for the dedication and commitment of their teachers.
If not for those who teach, there would be difficulty or maybe even no possibility of people to improve and better themselves, and this is why it is timely to strengthen and augment the noble profession of teaching in this country.
The education sector in Malaysia, especially in regard to the schooling of children, has become heavily politicised, although there are vehement denials by education ministry officials when confronted over decisions made towards schooling.
Although education ministry officials have their own political agenda for the decisions they make, it is nevertheless important for students, teachers and parents and educationists and education watchdogs to oversee the ministry.
In this aspect, much more must be done to improve, strengthen and augment the skills of teachers by exposing them to right and proper training, in order for them to better serve in classrooms and schools in the nation.
There can no longer be any more complacency. The Malaysian government must act quickly to arrest the rot and decline in education standards, and impose a more workable and practical education blueprint for schoolchildren to succeed in their studies.
