News reports have surfaced in local media, highlighting the fact Malaysian fugitive, Jho Low is seeking to obtain an official pardon from the president of the United States of America over financial crimes he has committed worldwide.
If he receives an official pardon from the United States president, it really is a “non-issue” as pointed out by his Malaysian counterpart, prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to local media at a recent press conference.
Anwar Ibrahim’s assertion is spot on, as any decision to pardon or not to pardon Jho Low, is not in the interest of the government and people of Malaysia, as this is solely the prerogative of the US President.
In this context, as far as the nation of Malaysia is concerned, Jho Low is wanted for criminal offences pertaining to the Malaysian 1MDB sovereign wealth fund where he is being accused of pilfering billions of ringgit belonging to the rakyat.
Any move to pardon or not to pardon Jho Low is seen by independent political analysts as just a politically motivated action, and Malaysia’s stance of not involving the nation in this issue is viewed as a prudent and wise decision.
The bottom line is for the Malaysian government to extradite Jho Low and bring him before a competent court of law in the country to answer and defend himself over his role in how billions of ringgit disappeared from 1MDB and ended up in his possession.
