Over-reaction by a number of authorities must be curtailed

This year, there were a number of incidents in which the authorities went overboard in exercising their powers, and while it is not important to cite these cases, Malaysians are now aware of the policy of using a sledgehammer to swat a fly.

This simply means – the authorities over-reacted. Whether the police, immigration officials, MACC, or judges and magistrates, in this country over-reaction by law enforcement agencies and those holding authority must be curtailed.

There must be watchdogs or councils acting as check-and-balances to ensure that those who have been bestowed power by the government use it prudently and wisely to bring about social justice.

The reason why people in power go haywire when holding powerful and influential positions is because they have difficulty handling power and this is the reason for abuse and misuse taking place and the subsequent entry of corrupt practices.

Malaysians of all walks of life should exercise their citizenship by being bold and brave and not being afraid to expose wrongdoings, atrocities and crimes by people in authority by acting as whistleblowers.

By exposing the abuse of power and the reaction and response of not ensuring the punishment fits the crime, there are these black sheep authorities who are guilty of tarnishing the image of the Madani government and should thus be removed from office.
