Change in thinking necessary over the ‘threat’ of AI

Uninitiated Malaysians are viewing the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a threat to their jobs, believing they would be displaced at the workplace and it is important for the Malaysian government to set the record straight.

The National; AI Office (Naio) issued a guideline stating that AI is not about replacing human capital but instead it must be viewed as the workforce being ‘trained’ to guide and drive the transition in using AI.

While a large category of these jobs coming onstream are listed as ‘AI trainers’, they can be whittled down into job duties and functions such as data annotators, labellers, evaluators, content reviewers or language specialists.

In a move in this direction, more Malaysians are embarking on roles such as trainers, talent developers, subject matter experts and ethical guardians signalling a growing demand for AI training and evaluation across all sectors.

Malaysians must understand they are being hired for their capacity, culture and critical thinking, not just output, in being part of the perceived invisible workforce and the future-proofing in keeping the agenda of AI in the hands of Malaysians,

This must put Malaysians at ease with the entry of AI and not be seen as a threat to the workforce but an opportunity for a new category of job specifications which cater to train workers to use AI to ensure both people and AI can prosper together.
