Malaysia’s Ministry of Housing and Local Government has taken the cue and is leading the way by instructing all 156 local authorities under its wings nationwide to initiate and implement energy saving measures in view of the worldwide energy crisis.
But energy saving measures must not be solely the Madani government’s responsibility, and instead the private sector should duly play its role as well, besides universities, colleges and schools.
This energy crisis has given the nation the perfect opportunity to launch a publicity and awareness campaign on energy saving which must be cast in iron and made the standard guideline for all Malaysians to participate and follow from now on.
All government ministries, departments and agencies must be roped in to provide input and private sector bodies, Non-Governmental Organizations and individuals who have the knowledge and experience in energy saving must be roped in to help.
The New Normal is creating peculiar scenarios which the people of this world are not accustomed to but instead of wishing for the Old Normal to come back everyone should make the most of what they can do in the present situation.
While it is very easy for us to throw our arms up in despair, there must be no surrender on the part of Malaysians, and everyone has to be resilient and strong in coping and eventually overcoming and solving this energy crisis.
