While on the surface, and on paper, anyone who is initiated in the field of education is bound to be impressed by Malaysia’s National Blueprint for Education (2026-2035), but delve deeper and there are glaring omissions to the education of young Malaysians.

While it looks that the education ministry was all set to impress everyone that they are striving to give the best education to Malaysians, the prosaic reality off their high horse is that this is only all on the surface, which means it is just a facade.

But to say there are no improvements, it would also be wrong. The niggling doubts and questions, however, are still lingering like a bad smell and it is time for Malaysia’s education ministry to really call a spade a spade.

By this, what is meant is that the bad old ways are still prevalent. What is missing in the education blueprint is of paramount importance to everyone, which is the absence of fairplay, social justice and meritocracy.

The National Blueprint for Education is just a case of shuffling the cards and dealing the same bad hands which means no real change took place, only to reinforce the foggy ideas and beliefs and biased and prejudiced views of those who hold authority in education.

If for a moment Malaysians are thinking there are real reforms and changes, they would be sadly mistaken, as this is just another policy of the government that is set to go nowhere because it fails the crucial test of meeting the goal of egalitarian values.
