Police have detained a man in his 30s following a violent disturbance at a food outlet in Kuala Langat, believed to have been triggered by a dispute over an unpaid meal.
Kuala Langat District Police Chief, Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said initial investigations indicate the suspect became enraged after being reminded by a worker at a coffee shop to settle his outstanding payment for food consumed earlier.
“The suspect, who is unemployed, reacted aggressively when approached by the worker. He was armed with a meat cleaver and a rattan cane, which he had in his possession at the time of the incident,” he said.
Authorities also revealed that the suspect has a history of criminal and drug-related offences, with four previous records identified during background checks.
The incident drew widespread attention after videos and photos circulated online, showing the suspect acting violently, including pursuing a police officer while wielding a knife. He was also seen damaging a police patrol vehicle by smashing its beacon light with a rattan stick.
In addition to causing chaos inside the premises, the suspect reportedly damaged several items at the coffee shop and vandalised three vehicles belonging to the public nearby.
Police managed to bring the situation under control and apprehended the suspect shortly after the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force against a public servant, Section 427 for committing mischief and causing damage, as well as Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act.
