Extremes of wealth and poverty in Malaysia

In Malaysia, becoming increasingly obvious, is the stark possibility of witnessing pockets of wealth and acres of poverty as the schism between the very rich and the mostly poor has become a yawning gap that badly needs to be bridged.

But not only in Malaysia, as the latest Oxfam report on wealth shows that 10 individuals own half the wealth of the world while the remaining 8 billion people on earth have to share the balance 50 percent which means they end up with the crumbs.

Is this fair? Is there social justice in, for example, a country like Malaysia, who for decades produced leaders who championed the equitable distribution of wealth, only to discover now that what has actually happened is that the rich have become richer.

Basically, most Malaysians have no qualms of people working hard and with integrity to become rich. But the perception is very strong among the rakyat that most of the elite and super rich have amassed wealth by way of corruption.

But if corruption can be halted, if it can be reined in and brought under control, the mechanisms already in place to distribute wealth equitably can be put into motion for all Malaysians to benefit fairly and squarely.

This is why it is corruption that has become public enemy Number One in this country, and a Malaysian way of life, which has become a formidable threat to the peace and stability of the country, giving the all important reason for the Madani government to eradicate it.
