A Malaysian man has gained international recognition after being listed in the Guinness World Records for having an unusually high number of teeth.

Prathab Muniandy, 33, was confirmed to have 42 teeth, 10 more than the average adult who typically has 32.

According to a report by UPI, Muniandy first realised that his teeth were unusual in 2021 during a gathering with family members.

“I first noticed something different during a tea session with my family. I told them that I seemed to have extra teeth growing,” he said.

Curious about his claim, the family decided to count them together and found that he already had 38 teeth at that time.

Subsequent dental X-ray examinations revealed that four additional teeth were still embedded beneath the gums.

“By the beginning of 2023, all the teeth were accounted for, bringing the total to 42. Thankfully, most of them grew normally and did not cause any complications,” he said.

Despite the rare condition, Muniandy explained that the extra teeth have not affected his daily life. Many people remain unaware of it unless he mentions it.

“Most people are shocked when they hear about it, especially when they realise I have 10 more teeth than the usual number,” he added.

During the verification process for the world record, dental specialists also confirmed that two of his teeth had not yet fully erupted.

Muniandy said receiving official recognition for the record was a unique and memorable experience.

“It feels special to know that I now hold a world record for something so unusual,” he said.

Meanwhile, the women’s record for the highest number of teeth is held by Kalpana Balan from India, who has a total of 38 teeth.
