Firefighters have successfully extinguished a hill forest fire that broke out in the Taman Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan on Wednesday, following an extensive firefighting operation that continued into the early hours of Thursday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the operation was officially called off at 3.48 am after the fire was fully contained.

He said the department received a distress call about the incident at 4.12 pm on Wednesday, prompting an immediate response from firefighters.

“A team from the Seri Kembangan Fire and Rescue Station was the first to arrive at the scene, reaching the location approximately nine minutes after the emergency call was received,” he said in a statement.

The blaze initially affected a section of hill forest near the Putrajaya Toll Plaza along the KL–Putrajaya Expressway (MEX), covering an estimated two acres, or close to one hectare.

However, the fire spread further as operations progressed, eventually affecting an estimated total area of about 37 acres.

Firefighters from several stations were mobilised to assist in the operation, including teams from Cyberjaya, Puchong, Jalan Penchala and Subang Jaya.

Ahmad Mukhlis said firefighting teams utilised two 200-foot hose lines, water jets from fire engines and firebeaters to control the flames and prevent them from spreading further across the hillside.

Due to the challenging terrain, the operation area was divided into six sectors to improve coordination and facilitate access for firefighting personnel.

A drone unit was also deployed to provide aerial surveillance, enabling responders to monitor the fire’s movement and identify critical areas requiring immediate attention.

A total of 27 firefighters took part in the operation.

No injuries or structural damage were reported as a result of the incident.

Selangor JBPM said monitoring efforts will continue at the affected site to ensure there are no remaining hotspots that could potentially trigger another fire.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
