Grab Malaysia introduces women-only rides to enhance safety and empower women

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, Grab Malaysia has introduced Women-Only Rides (Beta) and expanded its network of women driver-partners, reinforcing its commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive mobility ecosystem for women across the country.

Currently available via Advance Booking in the Klang Valley, the Women-Only Rides (Beta) feature allows women passengers to be matched exclusively with verified women driver-partners. The initiative is designed to provide an added layer of reassurance for women travelling alone while creating more opportunities for women seeking flexible income through ride-hailing.

The feature appears only to female users within the Grab app and requires a one-time identity verification process before access is granted. Passengers must verify their gender using official identification, such as a MyKad or passport, together with a selfie that is cross-checked against the document. This measure ensures that the service remains secure and accessible only to eligible users.

According to Adelene Foo, the initiative reflects the company’s broader mission to empower women through technology and inclusive opportunities.

“This launch deepens our longstanding commitment to safety and empowerment,” she said. “It’s not just a new feature — it’s about ensuring every woman has a safe space to move and earn.”

Foo added that strengthening trust on the platform benefits both riders and drivers. “By strengthening trust, we create mutual benefits: greater comfort for women passengers and more earning opportunities for women driver-partners. When we prioritise a woman’s peace of mind, we also support her path to financial independence,” she noted.

The Women-Only Rides feature mirrors safety initiatives commonly seen in public spaces, such as women-only train coaches and parking areas, extending similar safeguards to ride-hailing journeys — particularly during the crucial first and last mile of travel.

Alongside the launch, Grab Malaysia has also rolled out a Women Driver Acquisition campaign, running from March to September 2026, aimed at expanding its network of women driver-partners nationwide. The campaign encourages more women to explore flexible earning opportunities on the platform while offering incentives to help them get started.

New women driver-partners joining the programme may qualify for rewards worth up to RM100,000, including fuel vouchers and a grand prize of a Proton Saga.

These initiatives build upon Grab’s #SisBoleh programme, launched in 2023 to support women on the platform through training, safety resources and community engagement. The programme focuses on three pillars — Drive With Confidence, LevelUp and Community — equipping women driver-partners with the skills and support needed to thrive in the gig economy.

To further strengthen safety across its platform, Grab continues to integrate multiple security features such as AI-powered facial verification, trip monitoring technology, number masking for privacy, and an in-app emergency SOS function. Additional safeguards, including Share My Ride and AudioProtect for late-night trips, offer further protection for both passengers and drivers.

Through these initiatives, Grab Malaysia aims to foster a mobility environment where women feel safer, more confident and empowered — whether travelling across the city or pursuing new economic opportunities.
