A female trainee doctor, identified as Dr Nurul Iman Fariha Zakaria, was found dead in a room at the hostel of Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra (HSIP), Kelantan in an incident reported last Friday.

Kuala Krai district police chief, Supt Mazlan Mamat said the police received information regarding the incident from the hospital authorities at about 9.55 am.

He said a team of officers and personnel from the District Criminal Investigation Division together with members of the Kuala Krai police station was immediately dispatched to the scene to conduct further investigations.

“Initial findings at the scene revealed that the incident occurred in one of the rooms at the hospital hostel. The victim was a 29-year-old female trainee doctor who was found unresponsive in the room,” he said in a media statement.

“At present, the case has been classified as a sudden death report,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Kelantan State Health Department (JKNK) has formed a special committee to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Its director, Datuk Dr Mohd Azman Yacob said the committee would examine the case in detail to identify the factors that may have contributed to the incident, including possible workplace stress and other related aspects.

“The victim was a trainee doctor from Mansoura University in Egypt who was undergoing her practical training at HSIP,” he said when contacted.

He added that the department would carry out a holistic investigation and urged the public to refrain from making speculation that could affect the emotions of the victim’s family.
