Not every attack targeting Arab countries is carried out by Iran, according to a Saudi journalist and political analyst who warned that Gulf states could be drawn into a wider conflict based on questionable claims.
Editor-in-chief of Independent Arabia, Adhwan al-Ahmari, said suspicions are growing that some incidents blamed on Tehran may have been misattributed, amid rising regional tensions.
Speaking in an interview reported by Middle East Eye, he said certain observers believe the escalating confrontation could be part of a strategy by the United States and Israel to pull Gulf states into a direct confrontation with Iran.
According to him, speculation surrounding so-called ‘false flag’ operations has intensified as mistrust grows between Washington and its allies in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
“Some believe this conflict could be a trap aimed at dragging Gulf countries into war with Iran,” he said, adding that such concerns have been voiced more frequently in recent discussions across the region.
Al-Ahmari also questioned what might happen if the United States suddenly declares victory and withdraws from the conflict.
“If Washington announces in a week or two that its objectives have been achieved and the war is over, Gulf countries could be left facing an open confrontation with Iran,” he said.
He added that targeting Iran’s leadership or destroying its nuclear and ballistic missile infrastructure would not significantly alter the strategic balance unless the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is dismantled.
The IRGC, an elite force tasked with protecting Iran’s ruling system, operates separately from the country’s conventional armed forces.
“Killing Iran’s leaders or dismantling its nuclear programme alone would not change the equation. Without eliminating the IRGC, it will eventually rebuild its capabilities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iran has accused Israel of launching drone attacks against energy facilities and civilian infrastructure in Gulf countries in an attempt to provoke regional anger and escalate the conflict.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry official claimed that several drone strikes in Saudi Arabia and at least one attack in Oman were orchestrated by Israel.
Two other Iranian sources alleged that Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, was behind some of the attacks and that Iranian authorities had detected their activities within Iranian territory.
