Prominent Zionist elements linked to plot to topple government, says PM

by | Mar 3, 2026 | National, News

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today disclosed that investigations into an alleged attempt to overthrow the government have uncovered the involvement of prominent Zionist-linked figures, in addition to foreign collaborators working with local individuals.

Speaking during the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar said the matter remains under active investigation by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and urged lawmakers to allow authorities time to complete their probe before further details are made public.

He was responding to a supplementary question from Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau), stressing that revelations would be shared once investigations reach an appropriate stage.

Anwar cautioned against defending individuals allegedly tied to influential Zionist groups known for opposing Islamic causes and nations that have voiced strong support for Gaza. He suggested that certain parties had been engaged to advance specific programmes and projects aimed at undermining the current administration.

Previously, PDRM confirmed it is investigating a prominent individual and an international media agency over allegations of attempts to destabilise the government and sabotage national stability. The case is being handled by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (D5), Prosecution/Legal Division, under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which relates to activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

Elaborating further, Anwar said intelligence gathered indicated that the alleged conspiracy began in August 2024 and could persist until the 16th General Election. Records show at least six meetings were held in 2025, both domestically and abroad, involving companies, organisations and key figures linked to the plan.

He claimed the alleged actions were triggered by large-scale corruption investigations undertaken by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), prompting certain quarters to mobilise foreign lobbyists, banking contacts and international media outlets to challenge the credibility of Malaysia’s institutions.

According to Anwar, strategies included shaping negative narratives against the government, particularly targeting the MACC’s enforcement efforts, and leveraging international connections to question Malaysia’s standing. There were also claims of attempts to orchestrate political manoeuvres through Parliament.

Describing the matter as a national security concern rather than a partisan issue, Anwar said the government is treating the allegations with utmost seriousness. He added that, subject to clearance from the Attorney General’s Chambers and enforcement agencies, a coordinated briefing involving the National Security Council could be convened for both government and opposition representatives.
