India PM’s visit to boost bilateral ties

Wisma Putra has disclosed that Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi is on an official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation in areas of mutual benefit.

Wisma Putra stated that “it will also build upon the strong foundation of friendship since setting up diplomatic relations in 1957, and the elevation of our ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership last year.”

Wisma Putra stated that both leaders are expected to take stock of Malaysia-India bilateral relations and explore further collaboration, mainly in the fields of trade and investment, defence and security, labour, tourism, connectivity, agriculture and education.

Both leaders are scheduled to witness the exchange of several Memorandum of Understandings relating to combating corruption, standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers and disaster management, A/V production and the labour industry.

They will also witness the exchange of notes for semiconductors, healthcare, national security and vocational education and training, and also an exchange of letters on United Nations peacekeeping cooperation and the Big Cat Alliance.

In 2025, total trade between Malaysia and India reached RM79.49 billion or US$18.59 billion. The nation’s total exports to India amounted to RM52.30 billion or US$12.24 billion with total imports at RM27.19 billion or US$6.35 billion.
