The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have identified two individuals believed to be involved in the alleged falsification of documents linked to seven Malaysian heritage football players whose registrations were submitted to the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said efforts were currently underway to track down the two suspects to facilitate further investigations into the case.

He said police had so far received 45 reports related to the matter, including one lodged by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

“A total of 43 witnesses comprising representatives from FAM, the National Registration Department (NRD), as well as members of the public, have had their statements recorded to complete the investigation,” he said in a statement.

According to Rusdi, preliminary findings showed that the process of obtaining Malaysian citizenship through the naturalisation of the seven Harimau Malaya heritage players was carried out in accordance with established procedures and existing laws.

However, he said the focus of the investigation had shifted to possible elements of fraud and document forgery during the players’ registration process for submission to world football’s governing body, FIFA.

“The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of not less than one year and not more than 10 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction,” he said.

Rusdi also advised the public to refrain from speculation that could interfere with ongoing investigations.

He added that PDRM remained committed to upholding transparency and integrity throughout the investigation process to ensure justice is served without fear or favour.
