Unconfirmed reports on the ground indicate that the Cameron Highlands hill station is to witness a railway line and a train service to be commissioned on the popular destination as another attraction for local residents, tourists and visitors.

Speculation is rife and information has been leaked by officials of the local authority’s office giving this possibility of a train service on the highlands a strong likelihood in adding to the other major attractions found on this mountain.

But environmentalists were quick to react by stating that it is important for an Environmental-Impact-Assessment study to be conducted by the authorities to determine the feasibility of undertaking such a venture.

These environmental groups stated that over the past number of decades there has been the felling of trees and the clearing of land which has caused Cameron Highlands to become vulnerable to landslides and other environmental degradation.

Over the years numerous developments have cropped up such as flats, apartments, condominiums, houses and bungalows, hotels and resorts and office buildings which has marred the natural beauty of the highlands.

Moreover, these environmentalists point out that illegal farms are many and they have cleared land to plant vegetables and fruits and to do other kinds of farming all of which has caused the temperature to rise.
