The Returning Expert Programme (REP) has witnessed more than 1,200 highly skilled Malaysians returning home for work over the past five years reflecting their confidence in domestic career opportunities.
TalentCorp Group stated that global mobility and the pull and push remains a defining feature of the workforce now with about 2.43 million Malaysians or nearly 7 percent of the population living overseas.
With Singapore, the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, which is functional, is expected to attract Malaysian professionals globally by offering high value jobs, competitive remuneration, modern work environments and favourable tax policies.
Correspondingly, REP applications increased by 26 percent this year, an obvious sign that there is stronger intent among Malaysians abroad to participate in the next phase of the nation’s economic growth and development.
In recognising and assessing the current human capital situation, TalentCorp supports both permanent return and overseas contribution. This foray or move is to enable Malaysians to still stay connected.
Industry trends among REP returnees align with Malaysia’s economic priorities especially top sectors such as oil and gas, financial services, ICT, global business services, electrical and electronics and healthcare.
