Reputed international publisher Forbes publishes a list of the richest persons in Malaysia annually and the staggering wealth these people have amassed by whatever means, fair or foul, is very impressive, and a motivation to those seeking to be rich.
But once a person becomes filthy rich, they usually realise that it is not the be all and end all, and this is when they are given to understand that in playing the game of capitalism, they should practise enlightened capitalism.
By all means these people should build their wealth and empires but, in the process, what they must endeavour to do also is to spread their wealth for many more people to benefit and for prosperity to be shared by all.
This is what they should do, practise enlightened capitalism and they can never go wrong as this is the right and proper thing to do. While they fully enjoy their wealth they should not be selfish and self-seeking but spare a thought for others.
They should repay their debt to society because it is others who made them rich as it is impossible to become fabulously wealthy by yourself and therefore they should exercise gratitude and circulate their wealth among the people.
By being enlightened capitalist, these billionaires and millionaires have nothing to lose but instead they stand to gain respect and recognition especially from the hard core poor and those struggling without financial support in life.
