Aceh flood victims appeal for help from Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim

by | Dec 2, 2025 | News, World

Flood victims in the Gayo region of Aceh have turned to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for assistance after reporting a lack of aid from local authorities in the wake of severe flooding.

A social media post that went viral on Saturday, shared under the name Relawan Pemuda Gayo, highlighted the plight of residents in Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, and Gayo Lues who reportedly had not received any assistance for five days.

The post directly appealed to the Malaysian leader, stating: “@anwaribrahim_my, please help us, citizens of Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues. We are cut off and have yet to receive any aid in our remote villages.”

The video accompanying the post attracted widespread attention online, with social media users criticizing the Indonesian government for what they perceived as an inadequate response to the disaster.

Following the viral post, the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reportedly mobilised efforts to reach the affected areas via sea routes to deliver essential logistics and relief supplies to stranded communities.

The Aceh floods have left thousands displaced, and authorities continue to assess the extent of damage while coordinating relief operations in the region.
