While several states have banned vaping or stopped issuing licenses to traders such as Johor, Terengganu and Perlis, there are also other states who are on the verge of making a decisive move to ban vaping altogether.

Now legal experts are urging the Federal Government to buck up and do the same as inconsistencies between state and federal laws could not only lead to a stalemate but be in a conflict.

University Malaya’s Department of Primary Care Medicine stated that a more unified policy across all states is needed to prevent teenagers from picking up vaping and accessing and buying vape products.

On the part of Malaysia’s Health Ministry, the ministry has not implemented a ban on vaping and instead, it has acted in a circumspect way and manner by preferring to regulate the substances contained in vape liquids.

The Police Di Raja Malaysia or PDRM and the Malaysia Consumers Movement both urged state governments to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes or vapes as they have been increasingly linked to the abuse of new synthetic drugs.

Anti-smoking activists contended that people could go over to states that have not banned vaping to shop for vape products and also stated other loopholes like the online sale of vape products especially among the younger generation.
