Malaysia has received RM 16.2 billion so far this year in investments under the Malaysia Digital (MD) initiative which is expected to create nearly 6,500 jobs and strengthen the position of the nation as a regional digital leader.
Malaysia’s Digital Ministry issued a statement that, “These new opportunities are set to provide more gainful employment for Malaysians while nurturing a new generation of innovators and digital talent to fuel the nation’s future growth.”
The ministry added that the country’s digital economy agenda is focused on building a vibrant ecosystem that enables businesses to thrive, empowers communities through technology and ensures the benefits of digitalisation for everybody.
The ministry disclosed that the increase in digital investments was being led by high-impact sectors such as data centres and cloud services which accounts for RM9.9 billion or over 60 percent of the total approved investments.
The focus on innovation is very evident and, according to the ministry, Artificial Intelligence (AI) companies represent the largest share of new MD-status companies at 27 percent, followed by data centres (23 percent) and global businesses (11.5 percent).
The ministry revealed that there is investor confidence from key global markets which has positioned Malaysia as a digital gateway for the region and reflects the real-world impact of the Malaysian economy and the domestic workforce.
