Malaysia’s renowned fashion designer Hatta Dolmat has once again carved his name in the Malaysia Book of Records, this time as the country’s first fashion designer to create a couture dress made entirely of cake. This remarkable achievement marks Hatta’s second national record, a testament to his relentless creativity and passion for pushing the boundaries of fashion.
In a heartfelt message, Hatta expressed deep gratitude to the Malaysia Book of Records for recognising this unique milestone. “All praise to God, this marks my second national record with Malaysia Book of Records,” he shared, underscoring the importance of teamwork in bringing this ambitious vision to life.
The project was a collaborative effort that bridged the worlds of fashion and culinary artistry. Hatta worked closely with his assistant designer Salleh Hamid, along with Chef Azmir and Chef Saiful from Gula Cakery, who bravely accepted the challenge. Their technical expertise, patience, and unwavering dedication were crucial in overcoming numerous hurdles—from selecting the right edible materials to ensuring the structural integrity of the cake dress, even navigating the logistics of fitting it through standard doors.
Beyond just creating the dress, the project included meticulous planning across concept direction, makeup, hairstyling, music, and a poetic dance performance to fully showcase the living, edible masterpiece.
The final result was a breathtaking blend of fashion, art, and gastronomy, demonstrating that creativity knows no boundaries when fuelled by vision and dedication. Hatta emphasised that this achievement was not just his own, but a collective success shared with every individual who contributed to the project.
“This dream to create something beyond the ordinary has finally become a reality,” he said, thanking everyone from the bottom of his heart.
Hatta Dolmat’s record-setting creation stands as a shining example of innovation and cross-industry collaboration, inspiring Malaysians and the global creative community alike to dream bigger and reimagine the possibilities within their own crafts.
