Taobao Malaysia is set to introduce a Bahasa Melayu interface by June 2025, marking a significant step in localising its platform for Malaysian users. This initiative follows the successful launch of an English-language interface in September 2024, which utilised artificial intelligence for automatic translations and offered bilingual customer support in English and Chinese.
The forthcoming Malay-language option aims to provide a more accessible and seamless shopping experience for Malaysian users, particularly those more comfortable with Bahasa Melayu. This move is part of Taobao Malaysia’s broader localisation efforts, reflecting the company’s commitment to catering to the diverse linguistic preferences of its user base.
The introduction of the Bahasa Melayu interface is timely, considering Taobao’s growing popularity in Malaysia. As of April 16, 2025, the app became the second-most downloaded on the iOS shopping app chart in the country, indicating strong local interest and trust in the platform.
In addition to language localisation, Taobao Malaysia continues to enhance its platform’s features to better serve local users. The platform supports various payment methods, including debit and credit cards, e-wallets, online banking, and credit card instalment options, facilitating smooth transactions for Malaysian shoppers. Furthermore, Taobao’s logistics network, supported by Cainiao, ensures timely deliveries and offers order tracking options to keep customers informed about their order status.
The upcoming Bahasa Melayu interface is expected to further bridge the language gap, enabling more Malaysians to navigate the platform with ease and confidence. By offering detailed product descriptions in Malay and displaying prices in Ringgit Malaysia, Taobao aims to make global shopping more seamless and enjoyable for its Malaysian users.
This strategic move underscores Taobao Malaysia’s dedication to providing a user-friendly and inclusive shopping environment, aligning with the country’s multicultural and multilingual landscape. As the platform continues to evolve, Malaysian users can look forward to a more personalised and accessible online shopping experience.
