Over social media platforms, from time to time, it is sad and disheartening to discover the plight of sportsmen and sportswomen who brought glory and honour to the nation but are finding it hard to make ends meet, struggling to get by.

This pathetic situation would not have evolved if the government cared for the welfare and the well being of these Malaysians who have excelled in the field of sports and it is important that their achievements are not forgotten.

The government of Malaysia and Malaysians should show their gratitude and appreciation for all that these sports heroes and sports legends have accomplished and not discard them especially when they are in need of aid and assistance.

When they were performing their sporting exploits there was thrill and excitement and entertainment for us Malaysians, but once they leave the sporting arena they are not bothered with and left to the elements of life.

This sort of conduct must not be condoned. The government of the day, corporate bodies and sponsors, and Malaysians should contribute to a national fund that caters to caring for sports heros and sports legends once they retire.

By showing care and concern, and fending for them to be allowed to live a decent and comfortable life it will inspire aspiring young sportsmen and sportswomen to take up sports seriously knowing that they will be taken care of for life.
