Strive harder for unity in Malaysia

Following several race and religion episodes in the country, which were highlighted and received widespread publicity in the local media, Malaysia’s National Unity Ministry has gone to the ground asking Malaysians to strive harder for unity.

In doing so, after these race and religious tensions, it is important to close ranks between Malaysians of all walks of life in order to be united, strong and proud as a multi-racial and multi-religious country.

Malaysian prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, rightly chastised politicians and other players with political agendas that they will incur the wrath of the law for causing provocation and sowing discord among Malaysians.

While race and religious tensions rarely happen in this country, when it flares up there are irresponsible politicians who stir sentiments and blow it out of proportion, and this is something the government must nip in the bud.

Malaysians generally enjoy camaraderie among themselves, and race and religious ties between them are healthy and cordial, and they are aware by now that there are political opportunists waiting to gain political mileage.

This is why it is important for all Malaysians to be on guard and to be vigilant as unity is as important as race and religion for peace and stability to prevail so that the country can move forward in unison.
