The new school session began on February 17, 2025 across the country, and there seems to be a flux of findings and new activity, which is seen by stakeholders in education as the changing shape of teaching in the country.

While there are those who want the education ministry to be given time and space to sort out the system of education and teaching, there are others who contend that the Malaysian schooling system is very messed up and beyond redemption.

But the most glaring fact in the Malaysian schooling system is that many teachers are opting for early retirement, and this is viewed by education sector experts as a negative sign, especially the loss of talented and capable teachers.

The call by many Malaysians on social media is for these teachers not to give up on their vocation so easily but to strive with greater dedication and commitment to serve the young and nurture them towards a bright and promising future.

But there are the detractors and the less sanguine such as the World Bank, in their findings and surveys of Malaysian schools, who find that the competency level of the majority of teachers leave a lot to be desired.

Given this scenario, it awaits to be seen what will transpire and unfold in this school year and in the near future as parents, teachers and students and education experts look to navigate through the changing shape of teaching in Malaysia.
