Malaysia sees a rise in people with mental health issues

BY: AZLIZA ARIF
A mentally ill person is an intriguing person that has sparked interest to study and treat from time immemorial and the saga continues up to now as in Malaysia there is now a rise in the number of people suffering from mental health issues.
While there is no accurate data and statistics available as to the number of people who are mentally ill, except for guesstimates by certain mental health experts, it can be confirmed that the Covid 19 pandemic triggered a rise in cases.
The Covid 19 pandemic caused absolute mayhem in the world but what transpired as well in Malaysia is that a growing number of Malaysians reached out for help and assistance as they encountered mental health issues.
Although Covid 19 has receded but not disappeared altogether, in the wake of the present there has emerged a deluge of persons being treated in hospitals, clinics and homes for mental illness which is now increasingly common.
Even those who appeared to be strong mentally capitulated under the pressures imposed by the Covid 19 pandemic and this is also why Malaysians must now factor carefully about health issues and include the state of their mental health.
But there is a silver lining in every cloud, and despite the doom and gloom of people falling ill mentally, there is readily available treatment and therapies, effective drugs and medicines and counsellors and mental health experts to help Malaysians.
