Show respect and consideration for pedestrians

It’s nice to know that there are a growing number of Malaysians who own and use private transport, while most of the rakyat have to commute daily by public transport, but certain lines should be drawn with regard to pedestrians.

Motorists should not show contempt or ill will towards pedestrians as this ‘kurang ajar’ (insolent) behaviour towards them is unnecessary as they have every right to use the roads and streets in the country.

Moreover, because of the rise of an increasing number of reckless motorists, notably delivery riders, who ride or drive too fast thus endangering their lives, those of passengers and others, it poses a great ordeal for pedestrians.

This acts of thoughtlessness and inconsideration by motorists who do not consider how dangerous it is for pedestrians to use traffic congested roads and streets should change and they should factor the safety of pedestrians.

Owing to the situation of pedestrians on the streets and roads, motorists must exercise courtesy and give way to them especially seniors and children and the disabled who compose a large proportion of pedestrians in Malaysia.

Actually, by using public transport and being a pedestrian, these people are unwittingly lowering and minimising their carbon footprint by being responsible and civic minded enough to care for the environment.
