Social media platforms seem to have gone on an overdrive by highlighting a commotion involving Palestinians at Wisma Transit Kuala Lumpur (WTKL) which is now to come up to the federal cabinet for discussion.
On January 5, 2025, the Malaysian Armed Forces confirmed there was a commotion, which happened the previous day, which was widely circulated on social media stemming from the wish of the Palestinian refugees to go home.
One social media netizen commented that while Palestine is ravaged by war and the idea of bringing in the refugees was commendable, it is unbelievable that these refugees should think that Malaysia was a worse off place to stay than Gaza.
On Aug 16 last year, Malaysia flew in 127 Palestinians, including 41 injured individuals for medical treatment at the Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital while their relatives were given accommodation at WTKL.
Now this issue has been blown out of proportion and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s uncalled for intervention in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has backfired on him though he was warned by many Malaysians not to get involved in the matter.
Anwar now faces a wane in popularity and if he is not cautious over the coming months, he could possibly be facing a crisis of confidence, as his capability of being an able leader to deliver the goods become questioned by more and more Malaysians.
