Selangor to heed Sultan’s wishes

by | Dec 13, 2024 | National, News

On the occasion of the 79th birthday of His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Selangor, the state government has accepted with an open heart his order to clean up the royal town of Klang and to address flooding in the state.

In his pledge of allegiance, the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari acknowledged that the Sultan’s reprimand and rebuke reflected his growing concern for the people and the state of Selangor.

The Menteri Besar stated that to date a joint task force consisting of federal, state and local government agencies has been established for the flood mitigation measures and to look at the situation in its entirety.

This is why the Selangor Menteri Besar briefed state executive councillors that they cannot delay mobilising flood mitigation efforts, whether the deepening of rivers or the widening of drainage and dual-function catchment ponds.

This swift response comes in the wake of the Sultan of Selangor’s lambasting of the state government and the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) over flooding problems and the lack of hygiene in the state.

Datuk Amirudin stated about RM1.774 billion has been allocated to flood mitigation in the state, and out of this total RM574.5 million is for the Klang district which covers Sungai Klang, Section 25 Shah Alam, Sungai Kapar, Sungai Rasah, Meru and Sungai Rasau.
