Many Malaysians are carrying heavy burdens now
BY: ERIC HO
While the focus of attention of most Malaysians is good governance and the well being of the economy, it has come to the observant person that there is more than meets the eye in this country.
In case people are unaware, to the keen observer there are now many Malaysians, irrespective of whether they are rich or poor, who carry heavy burdens because they have needs that are unmet and which cannot be met by money alone.
This is why it is best for the Malaysian government not to just group pockets of the population into various groups by their socio-economic status but to instead work out mechanisms that the people’s needs might be met.
This will go a long way in boosting the Quality-of-Life of Malaysians in one fell swoop and, while putting money in people’s hands is important, it is more important to address the needs of people to alleviate the burdens they carry.
It is disheartening and disconcerting to witness the general unhappiness and misery of a growing number of Malaysians and the Anwar Administration must go to the ground to ensure that their woes are overcome.
While Malaysia’s fundamentals are in order, there is still a pressing need to attend to the needy, the poor, the homeless, those in abject poverty and even the rich, who despite their wealth are crying for attention as money alone isn’t enough for them.
