Anwar accepts ‘D’ grading for now
Malaysian prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was unruffled by electoral reform watchdog, Bersih, giving his administration a ‘D’ grade as they have only served fo onlyr two years and the evaluation could improve in the years ahead.
The report card by Bersih in its mid term evaluation of the government’s performance cited that the poor rating was largely due to the failure to carry out significant institutional reforms in the country so far.
On the issue of fair allocation for the opposition in Parliament, Anwar defended his administration by stating that the government was prepared to implement this provided it went through the negotiation process.
Anwar stated that when he was the opposition leader, he negotiated with the prime minister in power back then and only after discussions was it finalised and the allocation given which is the usual procedure.
The funds could be channelled to the opposition if someone was prepared to take on the role of being a mediator between the government of the day and the opposition for a mutual agreement to be reached promptly.
But the prime minister reiterated his current stance which is to combat corruption and he stated that this was a huge task but pledged to carry on even if the cases involved the wealthy and politicians with a large number of supporters.
