Special recruitment of teachers in Sarawak
The deployment of teachers by the Education Services Commission (ESC), under a special recruitment programme for the East Malaysian state of Sarawak, is expected to be finalized by the end of this year.
The recruitment drive, which covered the entire state of Sarawak had attracted over 15,000 applicants, of which 2010 candidates were shortlisted after attending final interviews held in Kuching, Sibu and Miri.
The state’s Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development emphasised to the ESC their commitment to prioritising Sarawakian candidates to ensure continuity and sustainability through this initiative.
The ministry also stated that, through this initiative, teacher shortages in Sarawak will be addressed and it will ensure children, especially in the interiors, will have consistent access to a quality education
Besides this, Sarawak will implement a standardised assessment for students in the Dual Language Programme Sarawak (DLPS), beginning with Year 6 pupils in 2025 and Form Three students in 2028.
The ministry explained that the primary objective of the assessment is to evaluate the progress of teaching Mathematics and Science in the English language under the DLP Sarawak Project and to implement any improvements if necessary.
