Sultan of Selangor wants all deviant teachings to stop
A confusing array of Islamic teachings
BY: FIRDAUS OSMAN
The recent revelation of abuses having taken place at GISBH homes have unearthed other complaints of confusing Islamic teachings by the Malaysian ummah or faithful and this has become a genuine source of concern by the authorities.
There are social media postings that the Holy Al Quran is deliberately being misquoted or misinterpreted by some religious scholars and while these are a handful of deviant teachers there is a worry it may fester and become worse.
Malaysia is not new to deviant Islamic teaching and heresy and this is why the custodian of the Islamic faith in the country, JAKIM, should not be sleeping on the job but be more watchful and nip problems in the bud.
Generally, Muslims in the country follow a sound system of Islamic teaching but there are sporadic cases of the Holy Al Quran being interpreted according to the whims and fancies of certain religious teachers.
This does not augur well for the position of Islam as the official religion of the nation and while other religions also have deviant teachers and teachings the majority of Malaysians are Muslims and therefore caution has to be exercised.
Otherwise there will be a certain disarray and the rise of factions and groups practising Islamic extremism and lunatic fringe groups emerging like Al Arqam and Global Ikhwan which is not healthy for the nation.
