Unifor a symbol of Sarawak’s unity
In a move that has been widely acclaimed and much awaited, the Sarawak government is building the Unit for Other Religions or Unifor Complex and it will be a symbol of the state’s unity and inclusivity of all religions.
The complex, which will cost about RM73 million, and which is nearing completion, is expected to house the headquarters of Unifor and its charitable trust board and is a part of the Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Located at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee in the capital city of Kuching, the complex upon full completion will have a nine storey office tower and nine shop lots which will be occupied by trade and business groups and a hall for 1000 people.
The occupation permit is expected to be issued in late September 2024 and renovation works will be carried out and Unifor staff and the charitable trust offices will occupy the premises in early 2025.
In Sarawak, unity is considered critical to ensure that the state would achieve its vision of becoming a high income state sharing economic prosperity, social inclusivity and be environmentally sustainable by 2030.
Unifor was set up in 2017 by the Sarawak government to look after the welfare of non Muslims and to provide financial assistance for the physical development and upgrading of their houses of worship.
