Politicians as agents of ‘muhibbah’ (harmony)
The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) president, Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong has called upon all political parties and their members to act as agents of ‘muhibbah’ (harmony) to Malaysia’s multicultural community.
The MCA president, who spoke at the Political Economy Forum 2024, stated that political tensions in the country must be moderated collectively by all Malaysians while respecting the interests of each other.
Datuk Dr. Wee cited data from the National Unity Ministry indicating that the 3R’s (royalty, religion and race) cases have risen 123 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
He stated that the current political challenge is to address 3R issues that have arisen and that have been frequently manipulated by irresponsible people who incite hate and anger in this country.
He added that neither the government nor the opposition can claim to be overly ‘ultra right’ or ‘ultra left’ in this country as it is multi racial, multi religious and multi cultural which means that no one is superior or inferior.
Later, at the media conference, Datuk Dr. Wee urged the government and opposition to find a common platform to create political stability to boost the confidence of foreign and local investors to generate economic growth.
