Focus on urban and rural poverty
Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, disclosed that the federal government has begun prioritizing rural, remote and urban poverty and the voices of the poor all over the nation would be heard by them.
While rural poverty, the poor in remote areas and the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak are obvious to Malaysians, urban poverty is a fairly recent phenomenon that only came to light after the Covid 19 pandemic.
In a nation where the elite are engaged in the politics of plenty, it is shameful and appalling that there are hardcore poor and those living in abject poverty having no income or low incomes and classified as living below the poverty line.
Therefore, Datuk Anwar Ibrahim’s intent on wanting to witness a fairer and more equitable distribution of income is refreshing news for these people and also the bulk of Malaysians categorised in the B40 group.
Analysts and commentators offer a spectrum of views and opinions on why there is such a stark and obvious disparity between the haves and the have nots in this country and this feedback and information must be evaluated by the Anwar administration.
Since Merdeka, it is important for the government of the day to analyse the evolution of wealth creation in the country and why and what are the reasons for there to be an unbalanced and disproportionate income distribution among the rakyat now.
