Malaysia poised to be skills training hub
Malaysia is growing in appeal to Multi National Companies or MNCs and, therefore, it is now poised to sell its industrial training to the world, to make it a solid Ivy League skills training hub that is second to none in the region.
The reason for the enthusiasm to partner with MNCs is because the country has sixty years experience running vocational centres and a network of 33 industrial training institutions in West and East Malaysia.
The infrastructure to be a skills training hub is in place because Malaysia was a pioneer in industrialization in the region and this is why MNCs are drawn and attracted to locate in the country along with global tech firms.
Within the Human Resources Ministry of Malaysia there are power skill courses that focus on leadership, communication, critical thinking and problem solving besides language courses such as Bahasa Malaysia, Korean and Mandarin.
Going in this direction, the government has allocated an annual fiscal outlay of RM2.6 billion for skills training and human capital development which is considered by experts as a significant investment.
The centre of this thrust is the development of a ‘global training hub’ in the country that will train approximately 3,000 workers from across the Asia Pacific region including locals that are selected by the HR Ministry.
