Malaysians shocked by abuse in GISB homes
Many Malaysians are reeling in shock over the discovery of children being abused in homes linked to the Global Ikhwan Group (GISB) and are appreciative of the swift and professional action taken by the police and other authorities.
A total of 171 persons who were linked to the 20 homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan were arrested and 402 children aged between a year old and 17 were rescued in a high profile drama that gripped the nation.
The police, the health ministry and welfare department jointly participated in Op Global to conduct raids in Hulu Selangor, North Klang, Shah Alam, Sepang, Kajang, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Seremban and Nilai.
But what was disheartening to note was that between the year 2011 and September 7 this year, police had received 41 reports lodged against the group but because they were threatened by GISB members, these reports were withdrawn.
As such the police could not take any decisive action until now and when queried by the media, the police said the children lived in deplorable conditions, suffered physical and mental abuse, molestation and sexual assault.
When asked if any of the children had died due to the abuse, the police replied that there was a strong possibility but declined to give details at this stage saying that they are conducting a full probe and will leave no stone unturned.
